Grace

The citizen of London could enter the ball only in luxurious dress. To the dress belong not only many clothing layers but also complicated headdress and make-up. So, we can assume that the preparation for the party needed whole afternoon, lot of patience and several assistants.
The bodice based on the Janet Arnold’s pattern (Patterns of Fashion: cut and construction of women's clothing, 1660-1860) is strongly stiffen by whale-bones and wood. Its task is to create slim and in front elongated waist silhouette. The corset mostly denies the breast shape; the corsets showing upper part of attractive curves of women’s bossom as we know from the high baroque fashion, will appear bit later.
