1790s gentleman's outfit

  The 1790s gentleman's outfit is handsewn and consists of a cotton shirt with a cotton cravat, linen under drawers, silk stockings, a cotton body belt, a silk and cotton waistcoat, a woolen coat with dead-head buttons and breeches (underdrawers, the waistcoat and the coat: Baumgarten, L., Watson, J., Carr, F.: Costume Closu-Up. Clothing Construction and Pattern 1750-1790; the shirt and breeches: Burnston, S. A.: Fitting & Proper). A bicorn hat (chapeau de bras) was made according to the original from VA Museum London, c. 1800. The hat is made of cardboard covered with silk, linings and inner layers of cotton.
