Robe a la française - underpinnings

  Underpinnings consist of jean stays according to an 1780 original (St Fagan´s National History Museum in Cardiff, J. Sallen: Corsets), a decency skirt, and two hand embroidered pockets according to the original, 1725 – 1750, Snowshill Manor (J. Arnold: Patterns of Fashion 1). The lowermost part is a cotton shift according to the original, America, 1780 (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York), hand sewn pair of stockings of silk knitwear embroidered with blue silk thread according to c. 1750 original (Costume Close-up. Clothing Construction and Pattern 1750-1790) and ribbon garters with a buckle.
