Robe a la française
This
garment was made according to the robe à la francaise, France,
c. 1775 (The Kyoto Costume Institute) and consists of the
petticoat and the dress with a typical pleating at the back. The
garment is made of taffeta and decorated with self-fabric
trimmings with a braid and chenille. The garment is made
according to the pattern of robe à la francaise, 1770s, London
Museum (N. Waugh: The cut of women´s clothes, 1600-1930). The dress is
completed with a lace strip and at the ends of sleeves there are
tacked separate lace flounces both of embroidered tulle. The
dress is fastened with two sewn pieces at the front, compères,
fastened with hooks and eyes, which greatly facilitate dressing. |
