Woman’s surcotte

Woman’s woolen sleeveless surcotte (the upper dress) was inspired by a statue of Madonna, late 13th century, st. Peter Cathedral, Schleswig and how is possible to see also on the other German statues from this age, the surcotte has a rich pleating at the bottom of the armholes. The surcotte was made according to the altered pattern of St. Brigitta surcotte of wool with contrast linen lining, which was stitched up into each pattern piece separately. The surcotte is trimmed with linen stripes with embroidery of cotton and metal threads, metal components and glass beads.
