Patterns of extant garments

Fig.1 Portrait of Juan Alcega, spanish tailor and author of probably the first preserved book of patterns, 1589

Pattern is the most discussed, the most problematic and the most needed part in costuming. But even scientists sometimes have problems to properly explain this topic. In this chapter are diagrams of extant originals, scientists reconstructions and also after 1580 tailor's patterns. It is important to know that textile production was sophisticated and expensive therefore the best construction was the easiest and without waste.
